Job Title: SQL Server Database Administrator (Mid-Level), at least one year contract

Location: Phoenix, Arizona


Job Summary:

We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented SQL Server Database Administrator to support a large-scale enterprise environment supporting public-sector systems and services. This role is ideal for a DBA with 3–6 years of experience who enjoys balancing operational support with modernization initiatives. The position will focus initially on database maintenance, performance support, and ticket-driven work, with opportunities to contribute to cloud migration and platform improvement efforts over time. This is a contract position with a minimum duration of one year and provides the opportunity to grow within a collaborative infrastructure and application support environment.


Key Responsibilities:

• Support SQL Server environments across development, test, and production systems.

• Handle support tickets during the initial onboarding period to learn system architecture and operational workflows.

o Troubleshoot performance issues and assist with query tuning as needed.

o Support database backups, restores, and routine maintenance activities.

• Monitor database health, availability, and performance using standard monitoring tools and scripts.

• Assist with patching and upgrade activities across SQL Server instances.

• Support security and access management, including user provisioning and role maintenance.

• Participate in migration-related initiatives, including assisting with database transitions to cloud-hosted environments such as AWS.

• Contribute to documentation of database processes, configurations, and operational procedures.

• Collaborate with application developers and infrastructure teams to resolve database-related issues and improve system reliability.


Required Qualifications:

• 3–6 years of experience supporting Microsoft SQL Server environments.

• Experience with database backups, restores, indexing, and performance troubleshooting.

• Familiarity with writing and reviewing T-SQL queries and stored procedures.

• Experience supporting production systems in an enterprise or public-sector-style environment.

• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

• Ability to work effectively within a team and communicate technical issues clearly.


Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience supporting SQL Server in AWS-hosted environments.

• Exposure to database migration or modernization initiatives.

• Familiarity with monitoring tools and performance diagnostics.

• Experience working in structured environments using ticketing systems such as ServiceNow.

• Knowledge of Agile or Scrum methodologies.
