Title: Tax Accountant II (Indirect Tax)
Location: Phoenix, AZ (Hybrid – in office M-W)
Type: Full-Time Permanent
Compensation: $68,000-75,000
This role supports indirect tax compliance and reporting across multiple tax types, with a focus on accuracy, regulatory alignment, and cross-functional collaboration. The position works independently on complex tax matters, contributes to financial reporting, and serves as a key internal resource for tax-related guidance.
Your role:
· Prepare and file indirect tax returns, including sales and use tax, VAT, and related filings, with complete supporting documentation.
· Review tax work papers and returns prepared by others to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
· Maintain tax provision schedules and summaries for inclusion in financial statements.
· Research changes in tax laws and regulations, evaluate tax positions, and determine proper treatment and classification.
· Respond to tax authority inquiries and support audits with well-documented analyses and explanations.
· Provide guidance to internal stakeholders on tax questions, transactions, and process impacts.
· Coordinate with external advisors and service providers to support filings, studies, and compliance needs.
· Review tax packages and supporting materials for completeness and technical accuracy.
· Support transfer pricing documentation and analyses at local, regional, or global levels.
· Contribute tax expertise to restructuring initiatives and other business changes.
· Identify opportunities to improve tax processes, documentation, and internal controls.
· May provide day-to-day guidance to one or two team members supporting tax operations.
What you’ve got:
· Solid experience preparing and reviewing indirect tax returns, including sales and use tax and VAT.
· Strong understanding of accounting fundamentals and their application to tax reporting.
· Advanced Excel skills, including complex formulas, reconciliations, and data analysis.
· Experience preparing tax provisions and supporting financial statement reporting.
· Ability to research tax issues, interpret regulations, and apply guidance to real-world scenarios.
· Comfort working independently on complex issues with limited direction.
· Strong attention to detail and ability to manage work that has material organizational impact.
· Clear written and verbal communication skills for working with internal teams and external partners.
· Experience supporting audits, tax authority inquiries, or regulatory reviews.
· Ability to balance competing priorities and coordinate across departments.
· Experience with transfer pricing documentation or multinational tax environments preferred.
· Prior exposure to process improvement or policy development within a tax function preferred.
